2020-01-17 Work Log – 3D Printer

The need to print items for the dishwasher has reminded me that I am still lacking a printer. So I decided to spend a little bit of time working on some draft parts for my new-to-me corexy machine. One of the major components needed to complete the printer is an extruder mount. I purchased a V1 Titan extruder and a BL Touch ages ago. The BL Touch was actually intended for another printer it was that long ago. Anyway, into Solvespace we go!

So it doesn’t look like much now, but a quick overview of some of the features:

  • Bottom Right is the step motor mount. The Titan extruder goes on the one side of the mount, the stepper on the other, then bolts go all the way through all three components. I don’t think the titan can be mounted directly to a stepper without something in between the two, in worst case a spacer.
  • Bottom Left is the BL Touch mount, very primitive at this moment, without any cable management.
  • The lower ‘shelf’ is for mounting the linear bearings. The mounting holes for the bearings are not yet incorporated, but there will be 8 eventually. Bolts will come from the bottom as the bearings are mounted upside down.
  • The hook at the top is where the belts will mount. I expect to spend some time removing excess material from here. There are four belt mounts as with most corexy machines. The top is 13mm wide as the pulleys are 13mm in diameter so the belts will come flush with this surface and can then easily be clamped to it.

All the above probably doesn’t make any sense, but it will with more detail! (I hope!)
